Association’s 2003 Annual Environmental
Improvement Awards Banquet & Holiday Celebration
The Fairlane Club in Dearborn was host to the MGIA's Annual Environmental
Improvement Awards Banquet & Holiday Celebration.
Diane Andrews, Executive Director for the MGIA and Josephine Pompeo,
Landscape America, Co-Chairs of the event, along with Tiffany Carey,
Administrative Assistant welcomed the guests gathered for this black tie
event, complete with a wine and hors d'oeuvre reception.
Paul Sechrist of National Landscape and Award Program Chairman, narrated a
beautiful video presentation showcasing the talents of the award-winning
companies.

2003 Member of the
Year - Jim Berns, Berns Landscaping accepts his crystal award from MGM
Executive Director, Diane Andrews.

The Member of the
Year Award was given to Jim Berns, Berns Landscaping. This award is
given to the individual or company who has worked unselfishly for the
benefit of the Association, its members, and the Association's
influence in the greater community. Jim's outstanding contribution to
the Certified Landscape Technician Program this year contributed to
the members nominating him for this prestigious award.

2003 Chairman's Award
presented to the City of Grosse Pointe Farms. Mayor Jim Farquhar
accepted the award from Patrick Donnelly, MGIA Chairman of the Board.

The Chairman's
Award was presented to the City of Grosse Pointe Farms. This Award is
given annually to the group or individual whom through leadership and
example contributes to the quality of our environment and the
magnificence of the landscape. Mayor Jim Farquhar accepted the award
on behalf of his city for their commitment to the protect and preserve
their native trees - including the Elms and Ash.

New to the program
this year was the Supplier Partner Award. This award was presented to
Oaks Concrete Products, Inc. The membership nominated Oaks for their
contributions to the industry. This award was presented to Oaks
Concrete Products, Inc. for their professionalism, dedication and
support of the green industry. |
Chairman of the Board Patrick Donnelly recognized six of the eight members
who passed the Certified Landscape Technician Exam this year. They were
given complimentary tickets to the event and were presented with
certificates.
Many guests took home gifts, including gift certificates for many of
Detroit's finest restaurants. The grand prize - a trip for two to Jamaica.
These gifts were made possible by the generous donations from the
following companies recognized below. A special thank you to all of them
and to all of the wonderful industry people who made the evening such a
success. Congratulations to all of the award winners for their fine work.
